HOW TO FADE ACNE SCARS

Scars can form on your skin as a result of damage to the dermis layer as a result of an acne breakout. While not every acne causes scarring, there are a number of topical treatments that can help to reduce the appearance of scars.

SCARS, EXACTLY WHAT ARE THEY?

Scars form when the tissues in the dermis layer of the skin are injured, such as by the spot itself or how it was treated. The body attempts to replace damaged tissues by generating collagen fibres to mend the tissue and form a new layer around the damage throughout the healing process. Scarring can result from either too much or too little collagen production, and it can range from flat and white to raised and dark.

SCARS CAN BE CLASSIFIED INTO TWO TYPES:

ATROPHIC SCARS: are depressed into the skin and appear as holes or rough crevices due to a lack of collagen production during the healing process. Boxcar scars (u-shaped with sharp edges) and Icepick scars are two examples of these scars (deep, narrow with sharp edges).

HYPERTROPHIC SCARS: These are raised scars caused by the overproduction of collagen during the healing process. These can be raised lumps and bumps beneath the skin's surface.

Scarring, dark patches, pigmentation, and uneven skin tone are all possible side effects of a severe breakout or picking at/popping pimples. Treatments like Alpha Arbutin, Vitamin C, and Rosehip Oil can help clean it up over time.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE SCARS?

The breakouts themselves can naturally cause scarring as the inflammation of the walls of the pore can be damaged and the contents of the blemish expand into the surrounding tissues.

Another common cause is picking, popping, or squeezing pimples when they appear (we understand, the temptation is strong), which can cause excessive inflammation and damage to an already delicate skin structure, potentially leading to deeper scars that are more difficult to cure.

HOW TO GET RID OF SCARS

Because scarring impacts further than the skin's surface, it might feel like a lengthy game to see changes, and the skin's original state isn't assured. Patience and persistence, combined with properly developed treatments, are a great combination for reducing scarring as much as possible.
